The project

Offsite Solutions delivered its second hotel bathroom pod contract for developer Zeal Hotels – a £700,000 project with main contractor Midas Construction.

This was the 16th project delivered in partnership with Midas. The Ibis Hotel provides high-quality accommodation for business and leisure visitors to Bridgwater. It follows the successful delivery of bathroom pods for the nearby Holiday Inn Express, also for Zeal Hotels and built by Midas.

The bathroom pod solution

A total of 136 steel-framed shower pods were manufactured for the £11.8m Ibis Plaza Hotel at Woodlands Court Business Park in Bridgwater, Somerset.

Each pod was fully fitted out offsite and craned into position on-site, reducing installation time to just a few hours.

The pods feature:

  • A large walk-in shower with fixed glass panel and pivot door
  • A contemporary square basin on a floating black granite-effect shelf
  • A black-finished metal towel rail
  • Wall-mounted WC with brushed satin dual flush
  • Roca sanitaryware throughout

Only left- and right-hand formats were manufactured to optimise efficiency during offsite production.

Bathroom tiling to the highest standards

Tiling was completed using full tiles for a crisp and precise finish. Large format dark grey porcelain tiles were used for the floor and bottom two rows of wall tiles. These were paired with a retro-style off-white metro tile and anthracite grey grout to deliver a clean and elegant aesthetic in line with the client’s design brief.

The customer perspective

“We decided with our construction partner Midas that bathroom pods for these two projects were the way forward. The use of offsite manufacturing for the shower rooms brought a level and consistency of quality that is extremely difficult to achieve with in-situ construction. The pods for both schemes were designed at the early stages so the bathrooms are manufactured before work started on site. This approach worked very well.”

– Tony Clark, Commercial Director, Zeal Hotels

“Midas has used Offsite Solutions’ bathroom pods extensively and for 16 projects to date – from hotels to student accommodation. In addition to the quality benefits, pods reduce time on site, involve less subcontracted labour and less supervision of trades. These factors all contribute to improved efficiency on site.”

– Neil Lewis, Senior Project Manager, Midas
